The Sleeper The Monadnock Region covers a large portion of western New Hampshire and is separated from Vermont by the Connecticut River and shares a boarder with Massachusetts to the south. Like the Great North Woods Region, Monadnock could be described as closely pristine, for, although it abuts Massachusetts, it and the western portion of Massachusetts are just beginning to fully feel the effect of westward migration. Continuing home price increases in the east and closer developing job opportunities along the I-495 belt have helped people “discover” Monadnock. Once you are there and view the untouched rolling farmland and stately Mt. Monadnock, visit quaint country villages and meet truly friendly people, one starts to wonder why it has taken this long to be discovered. In fact, in some towns, such as Peterborough, where a thriving culture center has existed for many years, and Keene, which has become a center of industrial employment, higher education and the center of shopping for the whole region, the discovery has been made. However, it only takes a ride through Walpole, Rindge, Jaffrey and New Ipswich to realize how it must have been in the early 1700s before people knew what an automobile was. This idyllic country is even home to the Old Farmer's Almanac, which is based in Dublin and has published every September – since 1792 – it's world famous weather predictions. Someday, this region is going to change, but until that day arrives, it is an excellent location to find low priced real estate and a way of life most people can only read about.
